Flower Care Tips
When handling cut flowers, the choice of an appropriate container is crucial for their well-being. Often overlooked, it’s a key factor in ensuring flowers flourish by providing proper support and ample water. Begin by selecting a clean container that suits the height and type of flowers you have. Fill it almost to the top with cool, fresh water, adding flower food if desired. While flower food enhances nourishment and keeps the water bacteria-free, it’s not strictly necessary.
To promote longevity, remove all leaves from the lower half to two-thirds of each stem. This prevents foliage from being submerged, averting decay that can compromise water quality and flower lifespan.
Trim all stems at a sharp angle using scissors or secateurs to achieve the desired length. This not only increases the cut surface area but also facilitates water and nutrient absorption. Additionally, it prevents the stem base from lying flat on the vase bottom, allowing for better water uptake.
Certain flowers, like tulips and stocks, may bend. To straighten their stems, wrap the bunch in paper and immerse them in deep water for several hours. Alternatively, let them display their natural curves!
If some flowers tend to droop, like poppies and hellebores, briefly dip the bottom 2.5cm of their stems into hot water (just off the boil) for 20-30 seconds. This technique may also revive drooping roses after re-cutting their stems.
Some flowers, such as daffodils and euphorbia, release a milky sap disliked by others. If mixing them in a vase, soak them alone in cool water for 4-6 hours, then use without re-cutting the stems.
Avoid hammering the base of woody stems, as this increases the risk of bacterial infection.
Regularly check the water level and top up as needed, ideally on a daily basis.
Every 2 or 3 days, re-cut the flowers, clean the vase, and change the water. Remove any fading flowers to maintain a fresh appearance.
Position the flower arrangement in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, radiators, and fires.
For stubborn flowers slow to open, like lilies and peonies, re-cut the stems and place them in warm/tepid water. Repeat the process every few hours to encourage timely blooming for special events.

Candle Care Tips: Enhance Your Scented Candle Experience
Follow these easy steps to make the most out of your scented candle:
1. Trim the Wick: Before lighting or relighting, trim the wick to 5mm. Also, avoid placing the candle in a draft to ensure an even burn, prevent smoking, and keep the wax pool free from debris.
2. Optimal Burning Time: Allow the candle to become liquid across the entire surface by burning it for a specific minimum time before extinguishing. For votives, burn for approximately 1 hour, medium candles for around 2 hours, and large candles for about 3 hours. This practice ensures that all the wax is utilized over time.
3. Keep the Wick Centered: Ensure the wick remains upright and in the center. Reposition it if necessary soon after extinguishing the candle and allowing the wax to cool slightly.
4. Limited Burn Time: Burn the candle for a maximum of 4 hours at a time (for large candles) and 2 hours at a time for votives.
5. Cool and Solidify: Allow the candle to cool and solidify before relighting. Follow the above steps each time you relight the candle.
6. Safety First: Keep candles away from children, pets, and flammable materials. Protect the surface on which the candle rests. Never let the flame burn to the glass candle base, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
By following these simple tips, you can elevate your scented candle experience while ensuring safety and longevity.
